Pop Up Shops

We are excited to announce Local Holiday, our latest pop-up planned for November 17- 20, 2017.  Get excited! Mark you calendars!

Here are our curated artists for this holiday season:

Sarah Sladen of  Sass Designs jewellery lives in Whistler BC creating unique handcrafted pieces.  From boho to chic, pieces can be worn casually or for an evening out.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Whistler BC, Sarah Sladen of Sass Designs is inspired to create beautiful jewellery designs using natural elements from around the world.  Jewellery that is comfortable for a hike yet dressy enough for a night out. With the multitude of colours, textures and styles available, good luck picking just one!

I left the corporate world behind when our family moved from Victoria to Whistler for a one year sabbatical. During that year we were reunited with our love of the mountains, forests and lakes and decided to leave city life behind for good. Whistler is now home and its natural beauty is a daily inspiration for my designs.

I have collected, played and worked with natural treasures since I was able to crawl. In my teens and twenties I had a small textile company designing and creating sewn and knitted garments. After 20 years in the nursing and pharmaceutical clinical research field, I have rediscovered my creative side through jewellery design.

I started making bracelets for fun with my daughter, Lauren, in the summer of 2010. Sass Designs jewellery now includes earrings and necklaces and sales have reached across the globe. Although Lauren is now at university, she continues to play a vital role in the company. Being a small company, we choose to support other small businesses that respect and care for their employees and the environment.

Beyond living the dream of creating and selling jewellery, I look forward to travelling the world learning and collecting from the international craftspeople that cut, dye and shape my materials.

Our visual artist this time is Alli van Gruen

Alli received her fine arts diploma from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Ontario.  Part of her studies included a year abroad at the college’s satellite campus in Florence, Italy.  It was in Italy that she was able to explore and get comfortable with her expressionistic style in both oil and acrylic paints.  Since then, colour and texture figure quite prominently in her paintings.

alli-5After graduating from OCA, Alli moved out west to marry her soul mate and took a break from her painting career to settle into her new home and raise a family.  She has now lived in Whistler for over 20 years with her husband and two children.

alli-4Alli’s days are filled with spending time with her family and friends, walking her dog Rocky, exploring the outdoors and looking for creative inspiration.  Come and see Alli’s work at LOCAL HOLIDAY!

LOCAL LOVE A Curated Pop Up Shop February 4-7, 2016

We are very excited to announce our latest pop up project called LOCAL LOVE!

Local Love is an innovative pop-up that pioneers a new way of thinking about our local creative community. LOCAL LOVE will be held at the Ian Tan Gallery on Granville Street and will integrate the fine art showcased in the gallery with the work of local artisans.

The Art is enhanced through exposure to a broader audience in a casual, yet elegant, environment, while the handmade pieces gain their rightful place as objects d’art.  We feel this is such a ‘win win’ because it is good for our local talent and it shows Ian Tan’s willingness to break out of the conventional gallery formula, which underscores his entrepreneurial inventiveness by providing a unique retail experience for his customers and letting the art world know that craft is an art form.

We will be telling you more very soon!
