Are you up for a Challenge?

Are you up for a Challenge?

As I sit here warm and cozy inside, I am peering out at the still winter scape outdoors and am just wondering how to do a little home pick me up. It’s past Christmas and yet not quite time for spring cleaning or changing the season inside. I don’t want to spend any money either as, let’s face it, Christmas always ends up costing us more than we think it will. So, what to do??

I am thinking it’s time to do some home editing. Yup, that’s right, a little editing can go a long way. By this time of year the papers are often piling on the counters, tax time is just around the corner and so the mail might be starting to accumulate before it gets filed or the pile of “not knowing where to put this” grows. Then maybe the cushions need some sprucing, or the towels need refreshing or the Christmas Poinsettia is still sitting in the corner.

What happens is, over time we don’t SEE the piles or the need for refreshing. We FEEL it though. We sit and live and move about in our space but it just doesn’t feel as comfortable or as inviting as it sometimes does. We then think we need to spend money to give it a lift BUT read on…

Sometimes all it takes is looking at your space with fresh eyes. I am going to challenge you to take off the veil and do a firm edit and THEN see how you feel before you spend a penny on anything new.

So I am going to ask you to make some intentional decisions about what you really want to give space to in your room. By doing this you will cut down on the visual clutter, which will really allow your favourite pieces to shine, and you will give yourself some visual space to really rest and enjoy the items you already own.

Do I need to get more specific? I challenge you to remove two items that no longer are speaking your language. Maybe it’s that red pillow you put out last Fall, or the throw that now has wool pills all over it. You get to decide what those items are but get real and get firm with yourself and just do it! Then while you’re at it you can put that counter pile into a nice basket to give it a home until you are ready to really deal with it. A box tray or basket can go a long way in managing those dreaded piles that sneak up on us all.

Once you have done the challenge, let us know how you like it. Do you FEEL better in your space? Is it more inviting now? I do believe sometimes our room need LESS and not MORE. And if after all is said and done if you still feel the room needs a little more lift, well…Spring is just around the corner and then it will be time to REALLY give your room a lift!
