Design Workshops with Designers Collective
We thought we would take this opportunity to talk to you about our upcoming Designers Collective Workshops.
We came up with the idea to offer design workshops because we were finding we were often being asked for consults and advice. I would often have a client call me who wanted to do the project himself or herself but would get stuck and would need a little help staying focused on their project. I would go in for a consult and talk to them about their design direction and give them some pointers and tips. This would then carry them forward until the next roadblock. Tina and I saw that there was a market here in Vancouver for people who love design and want to learn more about it. So, Designers Collective Workshops were born.
Our introductory course is all about finding your own design style. Sometimes we can lose our way on a project because we like so many things and then instead of a cohesive look it can look mismatched, even though you actually love each individual item. If you know your personal aesthetic then it will easier to pass on those impulse buys or to not get swayed by a great store display. It is okay to like a lot of different styles but it is better for your home to have a cohesive look, so if you learn what your general aesthetic is, you can then create that in your home.
We also have a Lighting Design Basics course given by a Lighting expert, Cairn Allen of Luminosa Lighting, which we are very excited to offer. Lighting is something that can change a room dramatically, but there is A LOT of information out there, and so having Cairn work with us to offer this informative course will really help to de-mystify lighting. For instance, did you know that by dimming a light by 10% you double the life of your bulb??
Chandelier: Birdie’s Nest Light by Ingo Maurer
Container gardening is another workshop we offer the DIYer. We have Diane Bridges, a garden designer and plant expert, come to teach us how to plant a spring container. Each participant will leave with a container they have created. Working in the dirt is a creative and therapeutic experience!
We have to mention our Los Angeles Design Tour, from May 28-May 31, timed to coincide with the Dwell on Design Home Tours. In addition, we have a great line-up of events, dinners, shopping and fun to share with you. Sign up is almost closed (March 15) so sign up now to get a spot!
